PROFILE - RON JACOBS

Here is a man who showed great promise from a young age. Ron Jacobs was quietly spoken, intelligent, confident and likeable; someone who attracted the respect of others with a quiet confidence that suggested he had an excellent grip on life.
Always a man able to take an elevated view of matters, Ron was quick to grasp the principles underlying a sport and use that knowledge in order to attain mastery of the game. This is not to say he was aloof, in fact, quite the opposite—he was always extremely modest and unassuming. But he did understand football. He knew the rules and how the game was to be played and interpreted. It was through this inner knowing and his physical suitability that Ron became a quality footballer and later on, a respected and admired umpire.
His two loves became football in the winter and the Fire Brigade in the summer months. He was very talented in both pursuits.
But a man with Ron’s abilities was always destined for higher service and it came in the administrative fields where his natural leaning was towards community service. The brief resume (above) really only touches on his overall community involvement but still clearly demonstrates a wonderful, long and rich contribution to the local area.
Ron’s life has been one largely dedicated to the local community. The Chelsea club can feel justifiably proud that it has, maybe in some small way, played a part laying down the guidelines for this wonderful local identity.
