AFLSE Notice re State of Play

04 June 2020
AFLSE POSITION STATEMENT – RETURN TO PLAY

AFL South East (AFLSE) would like to take this opportunity to update our much-valued football and netball communities on our position regarding a return to competitive sport in 2020.

The regions club's approach to a return to training over the past few weeks has seen strong numbers across junior, senior football and netball and is the first step to returning to competitive sport across the region.  Our consistent approach during these unique and challenging times has been to take advice from Federal and State Government, our sporting bodies – AFL Victoria/Netball Victoria – and to work collaboratively with our clubs to ensure the best path forward.

This will remain our approach, and we are fully aware of the importance of a safe environment for all participants involved and the ongoing sustainability of our clubs.

Head of AFL South East Richard Black and AFL South East Chief Operating Officer Shaun Connell met with the 22 MPNFL clubs tonight (Wednesday, June 3) where the clubs confirmed to maintain their position to review the status of the 2020 MPNFL football/netball season following the update from the Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews – on Sunday, June 21. The clubs will convene following the announcement from the State Premier to consider their position.

Consultation with clubs from the Frankston and District Junior Football League (FDJFL), South East Juniors (SEJ), Mornington Peninsula Junior Football League (MPJFL) and South Eastern Women’s Football (SEWF) will also continue, with competitions to be considered independent of the MPNFL process.

We thank all member clubs and the community for their patience - and we take a positive approach to see football and netball being played under the AFLSE banner in 2020.

Regards
AFL South East
